About us
Founded in 2001 as a spin-off from the technical department of the Royal Netherlands Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Avaatech began by building custom core scanners tailored for a few institutes. Since 2004, the company has produced a standardized scanner model, with over forty units delivered to research institutions worldwide.
In 2019, the company was taken over by Pieter van Duijn, who has been involved in the scanner’s development from the beginning. Starting with electrical engineering, his role expanded over the years to include software design and system maintenance. Under his leadership, Avaatech has introduced several major upgrades, including elemental core mapping and multi-core scanning, keeping the scanner a robust, future-proof platform for multi-modal core analysis. Having worked on every aspect of the system for more than 20 years, he has a thorough understanding of both its technical foundation and scientific applications. This broad expertise allows him to guide the company with a clear vision for long-term reliability and innovation, ensuring researchers can rely on the scanner as a trusted tool in their work.
Today, AvaaTech is fully focused on designing and manufacturing high-quality analytical systems for core scanning. Continuous in-house development across software, electrical, and mechanical engineering ensures our systems remain accurate, user-friendly, and ready to support evolving research needs. For the first time in the company’s history, most core engineering tasks are now performed internally, providing full flexibility and control over quality.
We combine technical expertise with direct communication and a practical approach. Working closely with contractors and clients, Avaatech remains committed to delivering reliable, high-performance core scanners and cutters to the global scientific community.
